Swans

SAMPLE LESSON- Draw a Swan!

This 1st-2nd grade class started with printing, then switched to cursive writing mid-year. Marie Hablitzel, the author of Draw Write Now, taught the lesson.

The Swan Lesson is in Draw Write Now, Book 1. The children attended Community Christian School in Red Bluff, CA, in October, 1995.

Walrus

The walrus lesson is in Draw Write Now, Book 4.

Marie Hablitzel volunteered at Community Christian School in Red Bluff, CA with the 1st - 2nd grade class.

The walrus was drawn in January, part of a unit on the Arctic and Antarctic.

The Northern Lights was the highlight of this lesson. Marie gave the children tips on ways they might capture the wonder of the aurora borealis.

Tigers

SAMPLE LESSON - Do the Tiger Lesson!

The tiger lesson is from Draw Write Now, Book 7. This artwork and writing is from a 1st-2nd grade class (6 to 8 years-old.) The teacher was Marie Hablitzel, author of Draw Write Now. Marie volunteered in Mrs. Crocket's classroom at Community Christian School in Red Bluff, California.

Marie taught this lesson each spring. Such fun! The Bengal Tiger lives in southern Asia and it's stripes help camouflage the animal in the shadows of the tall grass.

Multiage Class

SAMPLE LESSON - Draw the Whale!

The whale lesson is in Draw Write Now, Book 4.

Draw together! These children's drawings are from a multiage class of  homeschool students in Poulsbo, WA. The teacher was Kim Stitzer

The children's ages range from 4 to 12 and the class was together for two years, 2004 to 2005. The older children practiced their handwriting while 4 year-old Hannah received one-on-one help.

"Drawing with my students helped me be more effective overall as a teacher." —Marie

“It’s not hard to show a child how to form letters and write sentences. The challenge with any handwriting program is motivating the child to practice regularly and carefully. Drawing makes handwriting practice fun.”
— Marie Hablitzel
“Every child in my class feels their drawing is a masterpiece!”
— Sandra, 1st Grade Teacher
“I was feeling smug before reviewing Draw Write Now. After all, I’m a professional graphic artist and illustrator. If anybody can teach someone to draw it’s me…Right? I’d been fairly successful teaching my 4-1/2 year old daughter to draw and she was doing quite well. Boy was I humbled when I saw the drawings Maranda did while we reviewed Draw Write Now. Before, she may have used lines (stick figures) to create the wings on a bird. Now she is able to see the wings as a shape and use lines to add details. Any art school teacher will stress the importance of being able to break down a painting, design or drawing into a series of shapes—Marie and Kim have perfected this lesson.”
— David James, reviewer
“We started the drawing lessons together. The children used their own ideas for the background.”
— Marie Hablitzel
“In their old handwriting sessions, the writing started neat and quickly deteriorate by the end of the page. Using Draw Write Now, the writing is beautiful from beginning to end… the children want their writing to look nice, because they are so proud of their drawings.”
— Book Lover, Review
