Jumbo Grip Pencils

"My favorite is the Jumbo Grip Pencil."

— Keith, age 11

Jumbo Grip Pencils are comfortable. Here's why:

Shape The triangular shaped barrel encourages the tripod grip.

Size The thick size is easy to grip. Recommended for ages 3 to 7, but many older children and adults prefer these pencils over a standard-sized pencil.

Raised Dots in Grip Area Little bumps for a non-slip grip.

Soft Lead Pencil

Does your child bear down so hard on their pencil that they engrave the table top? Do they grip the pencil so tightly their knuckles turn white? Give them a soft-lead pencil — a sketching pencil (6B) — so their marks show easily on the paper and the child naturally lightens their grip. An easy solution!

Some children grip tightly and bear down on the pencil because they want and need to see a dark line on their paper. The tight grasp becomes a habit. With a soft-lead pencil, minimum pressure is exerted to produce darker lines on the paper.

Top quality pencil by Faber-Castell. This pencil is standard barrel size and length. We like to use it with The Pencil Grip and other grippers. With regular practice, the tripod grip becomes the child's preferred way to hold a pencil. Learn more about the tripod grasp.
